One of our favorite office pastimes is to see if we can find a cranberry recipe that goes with Foodimentary.com’s “National Food of the Day”. Our tagline? “Yep. We roll with that.” Including sardines by the way.
So when January 15 rolled around with “National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day”, we figured one Google click and we’d have it. Ok maybe two… By the third click our communications director was looking visibly pale. Could this be that we were to be stumped?!
Finally and thanks to nerdmeetsfood.com, we found a Cranberry Pastrami Sandwich 101! By all appearances it didn’t look to be hot pastrami sandwich but desperate cranberrians can’t be choosers… Quite honestly what actually most intrigued us about this delightfully basic sandwich recipe is the squirt bottle for the cranberry sauce. How SMART is that?!
Which got us thinking…. how great would it be able to be able to effortlessly squiggle America’s Original Superfruit™ onto our turkey, chicken, ham, pastrami, cheese, fill-in-the-blank sandwiches? Or how about a pretty swoosh atop our yogurt parfaits, ice-creams and pancakes. A dollop into our salad dressings and barbecue sauces. Generous pours into our morning smoothies. Or a drizzle directly onto our tongues when we are standing by the fridge at midnight and wondering what might make a good snack (cranberries are naturally cholesterol and fat free, low in sodium and a good source of dietary fiber).
As far as we know there isn’t such a thing as straight-up cranberry sauce in a squirt bottle but if anybody knows of a product out there, we’d love to hear from you. In the meantime, a shout out to the cranberry/ condiment industry: can you please make such a thing?!! Otherwise it’s DIY for us…
